The Salem Witch Trials
The Tragedy of Rebecca Nurse Woman, Christian, Wife, Mother, Victim
Her life ended July 19th, 1692 when she was hung from the gallows alongside four other witchcraft accuses. However, before that she had a life, she was more than just a body to be counted in the slayings.
She was baptized in Yarmouth, England, on February 21, 1621,or possibly ‘22. Her parents were William Towne and Joanna Blessing.Thanks to her religious upbringings she would later be consider one of the most pious individuals in her village of Salem, Massachusetts.
She was a family woman, and with her family Left England for the New World. In Salem, she met and married Francis Nurse, they bore eight children together. Only one of her eight children spoke in her defense at her witchcraft trial.
On that cold July day of 1692 the village of Salem executed a seventy-one year old mother of eight. She was also one of the towns most
respected citizens.
