2. What is Manhood?

  • James 1:1
  • 1 James, aSLAVEof God and of the Lord Jesus Christ: To the 12 tribes in the Dispersion. Greetings.

4. Pre-Fall

  • Mankind is created by God Genesis 1:26-27
  • Mankind is created by God for His glory Isaiah 43:6-7
  • Mankind is created to inhabit the earth Isaiah 45:18
  • Mankind is created by God to rule Genesis 1:28

5. Post-Fall

  • Mankind remains created by God Psalm 139:13-14
  • Mankind is in a fallen, sinful state Psalm 58:2-4; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12
  • Satan has taken over rulership of the age 2nd Corinthians 4:4
  • Mankind loses Sonship & that Sonship is restored by Jesus Romans 8:14-16; Galatians 4:4-7
  • Though not all are given Sonship, all are to be given dignity due to all being image-bearers 1st Peter 2:17

6. James

  • Brother of Jesus Matthew 13:55; Mark 6:3; Galatians 1:19
  • Spent time w/Jesus in Capernaum John 2:12
  • Tried to advise Jesus on how to be a better messiah John 7:3; 7:10
  • Did not believe John 7:5

7. James

  • Jesus appeared to James after His resurrection 1st Corinthians 15:7
  • Eventually believes that Jesus was the savior & is found praying in the upper room Acts 1:14
  • Was a leader in the early church Acts 12:17; Acts 15:13-21; Acts 21:18
  • Was an Apostle Galatians 1:19

8. James

  • Co-signed Pauls ministry Galatians 2:9
  • Was married 1st Corinthians 9:5
  • Also known as James the Less in many historical books
  • Martyred in 62AD by a Sadducee named Ananus (Josephus,Antiquities20.9.1)
  • At 94 years of age, he was beaten & stoned by the Jews until finally, he had his brains dashed out with a fuller's club. ( Foxes Book of Martyrs , 1:5)

9. A slave of God

  • This was James identity
    • 1) His name
    • 2) His citizenship
    • 3) His social status
    • 4) His loyalty

10. This fueled James

  • His witness
  • His resolve
  • It confused his enemies
  • It confused the world

11. This was the sum of James

  • Existence
  • Walk
  • Ministry

12. This designation was on his mind as James endured

    • 1) Trials
    • 2) Testing
  • Being a Slave of Jesus Christ defined it all!
