The following exercise is a great way to help kids overcome “dribble mania” by forcing them to develop their pivoting, movement, and court vision. If you remove the option to dribble, kids gain practice and confidence in other areas of offense and defense, including the ability to get open for a pass, the ability to make a long pass, and intercepting a pass.
Play three-on-three in which one team has
possession of the ball for two minutes at a
time. During those two minutes, the players
must pass the ball at least every five
seconds to each other without dribbling.
They get one point for each successful pass
but lose a point if the other team intercepts,
if they do not complete the pass within five
seconds, or if the ball goes out of bounds.
Play two to five rounds.
