Ed Sarfo knows how important it is for every basketball player to work towards improving their playing skills. Whether you play guard, forward or center, your ball playing skills will be the most important in the game. And it all starts with having good ball handling skills. When you handle the ball well, passing and shooting fall in line. Not having to think about how you handle or dribble the ball enables you to focus on learning the nuances of the game.

Working on your skills starts with setting aside time to practice. A player serious about showing progress will often dedicate about 2-4 hours in a day to work on their skills. While every player will have different goals, there's no substitute for putting in the time to improve. Too many times players focus on advanced basketball tricks, yet many haven't mastered the basic techniques to playing.

Once you have set aside time to hone your dribbling, handling and shooting skills, you need to understand how to read the game. Doing so involves engaging with other players in a competitive setting. Aim to play against individuals at your level (or better) in a competitive situation. Anything that helps you read other players is good for your overall improvement.
