NAVOJOA, SONORA.
• Navojoa comes from the Mayo
language, the “navo" root and means
nopal "jova" house, therefore,
Navojoa means "place or house of
cactus.“
• In the Jesuit mission
system, Navojoa was mission
town, taking as places to visit San
Ignacio de Cohuirimpo, Masiaca and
Camoyoa.

Sinaloa.
• The county seat was originally
located on the left bank of the Mayo
River in what is now known as Pueblo
Viejo or Old Navojoa.
LOCATION.
• The municipality is located in the southern
state of Sonora, its head is the population
of Navojoa and is located at latitude 27 ° 03
'north latitude and 109 ° 25' longitude west
of the meridian of Greenwich, at a height
33 meters above sea level.

the north and Quiriego Cajeme, east to

TOURISM.• The municipality of Navojoa, located on the
narrow strip of the Mayo Valley , between
the mountains and the coast
, characterized by its excellent climate
, flora and fauna that are unique to the
region, offers great attractions to domestic
and foreign visitors , as are :
fishing, hunting deer , dove and duck
species that are released into the region
and hunting ranches , as well as ecological
tours in the mountains , beaches and the
Mayo River .
• Other tourist attractions are the
legacy of the Mayo Indians that are
seen in the festivities June 24 with
the celebrations of the day of St.
John as well as the fascinating
celebration of Holy Week in May
tradition and commemoration of the
dead November 2.
• The municipality has 14 tourist establishments and
hotel infrastructure in Categories 538/4 from one to
four stars in which up to 21,009 seasonal domestic
and foreign tourists are met , also , also has 26
restaurants, 3 travel agencies and infrastructure of
roads.
• Also the city of Navojoa is the center for tourists
wishing to visit beaches, Alamos , Sierra and other
cities.
