Indirect Free Kick Pic

DynamicsPayet takes the kick.France has a lot of good headers, so they can vary their set pieces a lot.Pogba, Matuidi, Giroud and Koscielny are the main targets. They prefer to put more players to one side, and take the free kick to the other side, where another player shows up alone. The target zones are the penalty area and the first post.

Dynamics

Payet or Griezmann take the corner. They prefer the second post as the target area. The target players usually are Pogba, Matuidi and Giroud. They opt to be away from the target area and attack different zones to open the defense and create superiority.

Indirect Free Kick

Payet takes the free kick.

France opted for the second post where they put 3 players.

Matuidi stops his movement and confuses the defense, creating a 2-on-2 situation on the penalty zone, with Giroud marked by a smaller defender. This was enough for the striker to score the goal.

Corner

The same situation here. Payet takes the corner and they attack different zones coming from behind.

This creates space for each of them to attack the ball.

Iceland was really passive in this situation with 2 players to attack Pogba’s jump, and he still manages to score with a good header.

DynamicsRegarding the set pieces, Iceland wasn´t so efficient in this match comparing to the previous. They put many players to attack the ball despite the result. The takers are Gudmunsson and Sigurdsson, and they opt to put the ball on the penalty zone. The targets are the center backs preferentially, and Sightórsson.

Corner Pic

DynamicsGudmunsson and Sigurdsson are the corner takers and again, they opt to target the space between the penalty and the goal. Sightórsson and the center backs are the targets. They try to bring the defender outside the target zone to create space. They opt to put more players in the first post if it’s the target zone. When the ball goes for the second post, they opt to attract more players to other zones and leave a player alone in the back of the defense.

The Goal Pic

Throw In

The first goal comes from a throw in, where they win the second ball to France.

As we can see, in the throw in (specially in the right with the captain Gunnarsson), they put the ball inside the area, almost as a corner set play. They put 6 players inside the box and 1 in the entrance to attack the ball.

The second ball left space in the wing for the cross, and Sightórsson with a nice movement, scores.
