Friday’s Test

• Averages:• 901: 86• 902: 85• 903: 92• 904: 85• If you were not here Friday, you have until the end of this

week to make up the test• You can take the test during lunch or after school in 403• RETAKE INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE TEST

The Grey Wolf

Page 4: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

The Grey Wolf

• 1) What does the Grey Wolf eat in the video?• 2) Name all of the living organisms you see in

this video• 3) How do you think the wolves would do if

they had to hunt alone?

Page 5: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Grey Wolves

• Grey Wolves are incredibly effective hunters• Almost brought to extinction by hunters• Have been re-introduced

Unit Project:

• Your group will develop a plan for introducing an animal species into a particular ecosystem:

• 1) What animals will be affected?• 2) What living and non-living factors are

required for the animal to survive?• 3) How will you convince the community and

government to allow your project?

Page 8: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Unit Project

• Our guiding question: What are the costs, benefits, and consequences of introducing a new species into an ecosystem?

Page 9: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Lab Rotations

• 3 Stations• 15 minutes at each station• The copy machine in broken, so you will need

to write your lab answers on your own piece of paper.

• TRY HARD ON THIS LAB – labs are worth more than tests

Abiotic vs Biotic

Page 11: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Abiotic

• Abiotic factors include all non-living factors that effect and organism. They include:

• -Nitrogen• -Oxygen• -Water• -Sunlight

Page 12: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Biotic

• Biotic factors are all other factors that come from living things. They include:

• -Animals• -Plants• -Fungi• -Wastes

Page 13: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Food Web

• Food webs are visual representations of who eats who in an ecosystem.

• The arrow points at the organism that is doing the eating

Page 14: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Energy Pyramid

• Another visual representation of how species interact in an ecosystem

• Each level is called a trophic level

Page 15: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Energy Pyramid

• Also shows how much energy is being conserved in each trophic level

Page 16: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Energy Pyramid

Different trophic levels of the Pyramid are titled different things Where are humans?

ProducerPrimary Consumer

Secondary Consumer

Tertiary Consumer

Page 17: 10 8-13 Intro to Ecology Presentation

Energy Pyramid

• The energy pyramid also shows how much energy is conserved to each level.

• About 10% is conserved in each level
