Muskoka Cabin Project
Group Members: So Jung Yoo & Charissa Williams
Date: 2008
Concept: Balance Between Contradictory Forces
Concept Statement: Female body balancing family and
career
The concept is portrayed through the separation of public and private spaces. The public space is located on the lower, circu-lar area of the space, meanwhile the private space is located on the upper more linear area. The two spaces are connected by a curved and slanted glass atrium. These three areas are representing the everyday hectic lifestyle of the client through the balancing of two important elements. All of the public functions are located on the main level radiating outwards from the
core of the site (the living room). The living room space is a central focal entity that
visually connects the lower public area to the upper private space.
View from the kitchen to the warm
and open living room space.
All of the private areas are located on the second level, having a more
structured organization to enhance the relationship between the
contradicting forces. Views down into the living room are amplified the in
main hallway.

main entrance of the cabin. The
central living room is
highlighted by the steel and
glass structural connection.

Cable 14 Studio Design
By: Charissa Williams
Date: Summer 2009
Project Synopsis:
The goal of this project was to design a continuous mobile set. Pieces were
required to visually flow into one another with the ability to be separately adjusted,
removed, or reconfigured. Areas must portray a distinctly different atmosphere in order
to allow for variation in studio broadcasting locations. The "layer wall" was inspired by
the different communities that make up the greater city of Hamilton; the "wooden wave
wall" was inspired by the nearby lake- connecting Hamilton to other cities, such as
Toronto; and the "steel" grid was inspired by Hamilton as a Steel City.

Main programmatic requirements for this project included:
A main broadcast area to replace the current conversational piece
(shown in the picture below).
A new satellite area which would be utilized by quick news or weather
reports. The picture to the left shows the location of this proposed
space.
An extra alternative one on one conversational area for more personal
interviews and discussions.
Cable 14 Set prior to design
and renovation.
