Our vision of energy situation by 2030

ØDevelopment of energy system based on innovations and international cooperation directed on environmental protection

ØEnergy production safety

ØIncreasing total part of energy sources, without CO2 emission

ØTendency to spreading of consuming renewable energy sources

Perspective solution for SD:eco-transport

It is based on:

• Biofuel

• Hydrogen

• Electric and solar energy

BiofuelThere are three main types of transport biofuel:

l Biogas (mainly methane)l Biodiesel

l BioethanolThe usage of bioethanol is one of the most perspective

solutions for environmental protection. It can be produced of agricultural and consumer waste, plants, wood, etc. World leaders on its production are Brazil and USA.

Bioethanol advantages:l Usage of bioethanol as the addition to petrol will reduce the

amount of CO, NO and other harmful substancesl Increasing the petrol quality (high-octane number)l Deliverance from wastel Relatively easy producing processl Inexpensive fuel

The example

Obvio "Tribrid" – new generation car, which has combined engine. In that way it can use ordinary petrol, natural gas and bioethanol.

Cost depends on version, but average price is $28.000. This car will be done to 2008.

Maximum speed – 160 km/h.

The Hybride Cars are transition technology. The most perspective solution is based on hydrogen fuel transport, which is used in space devices.

Such engines make no pollution in atmosphere cause of watersteam like a result of action. Scientists foresee that the spread of biofuel will solve the main world energy problem.

Hydrogen, Fuel Cells & Infrastructure Technologies Program

The goal of this program is to help industry develop technologies to produce, store, transport and use hydrogen.

Hydrogen can be produced from a wide variety of domestic resources using several technologies. This electric energy can be used to power our vehicles as well as heat, cool, and power our homes and buildings.

Advantages of Hydrogen:

l unexhausted energy source;

l result of hydrogen combustion in oxygen is warm and water;

l combination “hydrogen + oxygen” has biggest maintenance of energy per unit of mass

Packagingl New and innovative tank designs will provide

better containment, reduced weight and volume, and improved safety.

A battery electric vehicle (BEV)It is an electric vehicle that

utilizes chemical energystored in rechargeablebattery packs. Electricvehicles use electricmotors instead of, or inaddition to, internalcombustion engines(ICEs).

Conclusion:

Ukraine has all facilities to produce eco-fuel using renewable resources.

l For the short-time period the bioethanol production and consuming are perspective.

l For the long-term period it’s better to focus on hydrogen as the transport fuel.

Page 18: 22.02, Group 7 — Concept of sustainable development in built environment

Group 7

Measuring:

l Ecology protection: controlling the amount of CO, NO and other harmful substances. It must be no higher than fixed limit

l Economy effectiveness: new fuel should be cheaper then the existing one. Prices for hydrogen will reduce and the prices for mine resources will increase

l Energy independencel Coefficient of efficiency: it should be higher than COE of

hydrogen (70-80%) and mine resources (40%).

Page 19: 22.02, Group 7 — Concept of sustainable development in built environment

Group 7

To realize the sustainability goals it is necessary:l to adapt the legislation for such science intensive

technologiesl to set the low taxes for using the eco-safety fuel and

transportl to implement controlling devicesl grants and awards for companies which product eco-fuell to develop business projects to attract investmentsl to spread the eco-fuel idea in societyl to use the international experience in sustainable

development
