But the IoT Value doesn’t come from the Technology or the Internet or the Things, but from Solutions that Mine Existing Data for Insights.

Gartner defines Internet of Things (IoT) as a network of physical objects accessed through Internet that has embedded technology to sense or interact with their internal state or external environment.

Do You Know?

Over 75% of companies are either actively exploring or using the IoT, and 95% of C-suite executives expect their company to use IoT in next three years.

The Answer has now become a ‘when’. And even for that, the answer is “Now”

Technology advancements and the associated falling costs, has accelerated the IoT adoption. Strategically, companies are using IoT to increase revenues, delight customers, develop new products, and improve productivity.

Think about it as the Internet of Your Things. Focus on the right areas of your business that provide quick and tangible return.

IS IoT FOR ME?

Do You Know?

85% of legacy & existing devices are unconnected. And, the installed service provider data center capacity consumed by IoT workloads will increase nearly 750% by 2019.

Yes and No.

Yes: Start with your existing IT assets and build upon them. The IoT building blocks – sensors, microprocessors coupled with networking solutions are already used in several industries. Also, leverage hybrid cloud.

No: Integrating sensors and tags with legacy systems is a painful activity and demands a flexible or “Plug-and-play” architecture. Even your existing data centers won’t support the data generated from IoT.

AM I READY FOR IoT?

Do You Know?

IoT will generate 400 zettabytes of data a year by 2018, and more than 50% of analytics will use data streams from connected devices.

If managed intelligently, its not overwhelming.

The IoT data is too large, complex, unstructured, and collected from multiple sources. It challenges your traditional compute model to cost-effectively consume and manage the data.

You don’t have to analyze all the IoT data - prioritize data for collection and analysis that impacts your business and helps you identify new revenue opportunities and improve operational efficiencies.

IS THE DATA OVERWHELMING?

Do You Know?

IoT workforce will increase at a 57% compound annual growth rate. It is projected that a whopping 4.5 million developers will be working on IoT by 2020.

DO I NEED ANY SPECIFIC TALENT? Not Really! There is a need for IoT talent, but you

can start with upskilling your existing employees on few areas.

A lack of IoT skills and knowledge among employees and management is viewed as the biggest obstacle to using the IoT more extensively.

But this could be easily resolved by partnering with right IoT service provider. They could not only get you started on your IoT journey but could help in upskilling their existing staff through trainings, workshops, etc.

Do You Know?

Immaturity of IoT standards and regulations are cited as obstacles to using IoT by 19% and 15% organizations respectively.

WHAT’S THE CATCH – TELL ME ABOUT RISKS? Imagine, if thousands of connected devices from

smart buildings, smart meters, supply chain and transportation, wearables, etc. are brought in the enterprise. Once these devices are part of enterprise it will impact the architecture and would require compliance to different standards and regulation than traditional ones.

Start expanding the realm of your IT and architecture to include connected devices that are not part of traditional IT infrastructure. Also, build a strong security infrastructure and a “plug and play” architecture to tackle the IoT risks.
