No Design – what do your eyes focus on? What do you do? There is no clear answer.
A mistake most non-designers make is they succumb to their natural instincts to fill in EVERYTHING… “It looks empty we need to put something there” Avoid that!
Allow WHITESPACE (or ‘quiet’ space)
This allows readers to ‘rest’ mentally and physically so they are not overloaded with sensory input. Rest time allows the readers to DIGEST content
Differentiation adds importance against other elements in simultaneous view.
Change aspects of an element such as SIZE, COLOR, ORIENTATION, etc to give priority to important information.
DETAILS!!! …are subtle adjustments of alignment and consistency to bring more order to the information presented.
Go ahead…look at the previous slide and go back-and-forth
Attention to Details brings a sense of stability and trust.
Trust instills loyalty and extra perseverance for the viewer or user to keep looking or keep trying even instead of just giving up.
FLOW is an important part of any visual or interactive display. Flow is any means by which you link various elements together to create a linear order.
Viewers like to be led around. This can be done subtly such as through the consistency of elements or obviously with pointer arrows or similar mechanisms.
Flow insures that users and viewers are never lost and enables users to achieve a task or otherwise feel satisfied.
RECAP
Whitespace allows content absorption Differentiation creates priority Alignment and Consistency create trust Trust creates loyal customers Flow enables users to achieve tasks
Keeping these basic concepts in mind will go a long way to make visual presentations effective.
Thank You for your attention
