Chapter 7-2Writing Equations in Point-
Slope Form
Terms and Concepts (A) A Linear equation accounts for all of the
points that lie on the line that it describes.
To determine if a point is on the line, plug the coordinates into the linear equation.
If a true statement results, then the point is on the line described by the linear equation.
The equation of a line can be written if the slope and the coordinates of at least one point are known.
Terms and Concepts (B) Linear equations expressed in point-
slope form look like: y – y1 = m(x – x1).
Simply plug in the known values for the corresponding variables once the equation is known.
