DESCRIPTION
"The Aloha House Story: Serving the Community Through Agricultural Extension" Agricultural Extension is a great tool for the development worker who wants to impact their community while minimising risk to the small hold farmer and back yard producer. Aloha House started as an orphanage for children in crises and now also is working with families and single parents. Healthy food production is an integral component and the organic farm grew out of that desire. As interest grew and trainings were undertaken, ECHO Technical notes were key to fast tracking the success and profitability of our farm. Join us on this adventure as Keith highlights some of their successes and failures in this 15 year adventure. Keith Mikkelson is the Executive Director of Aloha House inc., an NGO founded with his wife to help Philippine families. Aloha House is an orphanage located on an organic farm that produces food for the children, staff and customers in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines. Keith's book A Natural Farming System for Sustainable Agriculture in the Tropics has sold over 5,000 copies.

The Aloha House Story: Serving the Community Through Agricultural Extension
A Small Farm Resource Center (SFRC) is a research-extension tool that coordinates trials at a central site, as well on the fields of individual farmers, with the purpose of evaluating, within the community, ideas that have been proven elsewhere. Dr. Martin Price

WSU Puyallup Research and Extension Center launches the Master Gardener Program on September 2, 1972.
On September 2, 1972, Washington State University's cooperative extension agents unveil a Master Gardener Program at Tacoma Mall and seed an international urban-
horticulture institution. The program will grow into a high-visibility phenomenon. As of 2007, there were more than 4,000 Master Gardeners in Washington state and the model has been adopted in almost all U.S. states and several Canadian provinces,
with one chapter in England. Master Gardeners, under the aegis of WSU’s

The MBRLC was conceptualized in the mid-1960s but then implemented and
officially opened on September 8, 1971. The originator and founder, Mr. Harold Ray Watson, along with his wife (Elizabeth Joyce) and three sons, lived at the center in Kinuskusan, Bansalan,
Davao del Sur. Initial money for establishment was given by the

We are grateful to God for His faithfulness in His ministry. He is using us more to reach His people in rural areas with our new ministry (True Vine Organic Ministries - John 15:1-5.)
We are beginning our organic agriculture training with rural church leaders and farmers. We had a three days seminar of sustainable organic farming with rural church leaders and farmers. It was very much fruitful. About three hundred persons attended the seminar. All the participants appealed to us to establish intensive training centers in their areas. We had the seminar from Wednesday, April 10 - Friday, April 12, 2013. We need your prayers for there is a need to training them.
Attached is a praise letter.
We love you,
Wion and Shirley

1. High levels of phytic acid in soy reduce assimilation of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. Phytic acid in soy is not neutralized by ordinary preparation methods such as soaking, sprouting and long, slow cooking. High phytate diets have caused growth problems in children.
2. Trypsin inhibitors in soy interfere with protein digestion and may cause pancreatic disorders. In test animals soy containing trypsin inhibitors caused stunted growth.
3. Soy phytoestrogens disrupt endocrine function and have the potential to cause infertility and to promote breast cancer in adult women.
4. Soy phytoestrogens are potent antithyroid agents that cause hypothyroidism and may cause thyroid cancer. In infants, consumption of soy formula has been linked to autoimmune thyroid disease.
5. Vitamin B12 analogs in soy are not absorbed and actually increase the body’s requirement for B12.

Soy Alert!
• Soy foods increase the body’s requirement for vitamin D. Toxic synthetic vitamin D2 is added to soy milk.
• Fragile proteins are over-denatured during high temperature processing to make soy protein isolate and textured vegetable protein.
• Processing of soy protein results in the formation of toxic lysinoalanine and highly carcinogenic nitrosamines.
• Free glutamic acid or MSG, a potent neurotoxin, is formed during soy food processing and additional amounts are added to many soy foods to mask soy’s unpleasant taste.
• Soy foods contain high levels of aluminum, which is toxic to the nervous system and the kidneys.

Grow Feed
Why Grass-Fed is Best
More Fat-Soluble Vitamins – A, D, E, K - in the fat.
More CLA - anti-cancer & weight loss compound - in the fat.
More minerals - mostly in the fat.
To get the benefits of grass feeding... you must eat the fat!
And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be satisfied.

Turtleponics
Turtleponics
Water hyacinth utilize the nutrient load from the turtles and grow
rapidly. The turtles will consume the plant so growth rate and quantity of plants need to be balanced. This is
an appropriate companion system if quantities of water hyacinth out
grow the consumption rate of the turtles.
Duckponics
Duckweed utilizes the nutrient load from the fish and ducks and grow rapidly. As ducks mature addition grow ponds are available to grow
more duckweed.
