Biogaz Europe – an event that grows from year to yearLaunched in 2010 as a high-level international conference, Biogaz Europe has reached in 2013 new heights of success in terms of the overall number of visitors and exhibitors.

FOR THE FIRST TIME, the Salon Bois Energie and Biogaz Europe ran in parallel in Nantes at the end of March 2013. The converging worlds of forestry and agriculture came together to explore and further develop their common interests in energy provision in a European context that calls for evermore efficient and integrated solutions. 500 exhibitors and represented companies from across Europe attended the two events. Exhibitors by activity.

The exhibition This third edition of Biogaz Europe held in Nantes brought together 120 exhibitors and represented companies, a 200% increase compared to the previous edition in 2011. Exhibitors represented the full supply chain including turnkey plant or full system suppliers, consultancies, suppliers of components, gas motors and district heating systems, financiers and legal advice bureaus. Exhibitors of Biogaz Europe 2013 came from 12 countries (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, USA), and this is what they said:• « The public knows the exhibition and its very good organisation make it a key event for the sector » (MT-Energie).• « We have benefited from a remarkable visibility in a sector in full expansion » (Opal Energie). • « The link between biogas and wood energy has enabled an interesting complementarity » (Akajoule).• « The exhibition is on a human scale, targeted at the right actors » (Econerphile). • « A convivial exhibition with qualified contacts in nice surroundings » (Wolf Système).

The conference A high-level International Conference with simultaneous translation, over two days allowed the 250 participants to obtain industry updates and key insights on a full range of topics pertaining to biowastes and biomethane.

International business meetingsOn Thursday 21st and during the morning of the 22nd, visitors and exhibitors alike took advantage of the online business meetings platform, an opportunity to multiply the professional contacts made during the exhibition, organised in collaboration with the CCI Pays de la Loire / Europe Enterprise Network.

Study tourThe first dry discontinuous anaerobic digestion unit in concrete digester garages, was visited during the exhibition. This facility operating since early 2013 will eventually process 2700 tons of matter per year (manure, intermediary crops, cereal waste). The biogas produced supplies a 55 kWe and 75 kWth cogeneration engine. Electricity is fed into the national grid. Heat supplies a wood drier. Digestate is totally used as fertiliser on the farm.
