Are you at risk of an audit? Do you know all the software that is installed on your

Network? Do you have software licenses for all software products

installed on your PCs, laptops, and servers? Are you confident that no employee has installed

unauthorized copies of software? Did you purchase all the software on your company network

from an authorized vendor/reseller?

What happens during an audit?Business Software Alliance (BSA), a coalition of software companies that collects,

investigates and acts on software piracy tips. Most tips to the BSA come from current and former employees of the offending companies.

Autodesk for example maintains a license compliance website featuring information on recent settlements with companies illegally using AutoCAD and other software. <http://www.bsa.org/country.aspx?sc_lang=en>

• Example: July 20, 2010 BSA announced a settlement with Envios de Valores La Nacional Corp., a New York based money transmitter company serving more than 50 countries from the U.S. La Nacional paid $130,000 to BSA to settle claims that it had unlicensed copies of Adobe, Microsoft and Sybase software installed on its computers.

• Example: July 20, 2010 BSA announced a settlement with Starr Tours of Trenton, NJ (motor coach company). Starr Tours paid $70,000 to BSA to settle claims hat it had unlicensed copies of Microsoft software installed on its computers.
