The House of Representatives Introduce Animal Fighting Bill To help curb what many call one of the scourges of our country, the House of Representatives was recently presented with The Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act. The bill was brought forth on July 11th in a bi-partisan effort by Republican Tom Marino of Pennsylvania, and Democrat Betty Sutton of Ohio. There are several factors that make the bill properly known as H.R. 2492 interesting. One of which is the fact that it targets the attendees and the organizers of any event that showcases any form of animal fighting. Another is that star Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick has stepped up and thrown his entire weight behind the bill. Vick has placed many of his dog fighting related troubles in his rearview mirror. His extra support for this bill at a time where he has reestablished himself both on and off the field has led many of his former critics such as The Humane Society, to turn the other cheek when it comes to his dog fighting conviction in 2007. As the bill moves forward, it will be interesting to see if either Vick´s star power or the possibility of stiffer law enforcement will change the climate of animal fighting in America´s urban and rural environments.
