The CGIAR System-wide Genetic Resources Programme (SGRP)

• Established in 1994

• Representatives of the Centres and the FAO constitute its Steering Committee - the Inter-Centre Working Group on Genetic Resources (ICWG-GR)

• Bioversity acted as convening centre and Programme Leader

Agreements between the GB of the Treaty and the 11 CGIAR collections of PGR

• Settled the status of these international collections as being held “in trust” for the world community and

• Under the policy guidance of the Governing Body of the IT

• Represent half of the genetic resources in the multilateral system

• Represent over 90% of the genetic resources exchanged with SMTA
