Testing should be done throughout project development

More thorough testing should be performed near the end of development

Should continue for a short period after implementation to remove any missed errors

Page 5: Chapter10

What is your overall opinion of the new ESIP system?

Do you see any advantages the new system has when compared to the old? Disadvantages?

Has the new system made your job easier, harder, or had no impact? How so?

Does the new system lack in any areas that you have noticed?

Page 6: Chapter10

More risk than other changeover methods

Detecting minor errors is more difficult

Cannot revert to the old system as a back-up

Page 7: Chapter10

Parallel Operation

Old and new systems operate full capacity for a specified period

Data is input into both systems, and the output is compared

When clients, management, and IT are satisfied that the new system operates correctly, the old system is deprecated and phased out

Page 8: Chapter10

Pilot Operation

Implements the new system at a specified location

The first group to use the new system is called the pilot site

The old system continues to operate for the entire organization, including pilot site

After the system proves successful at the pilot site, it is implemented in the rest of the organization.

Page 9: Chapter10

My recommendation is to use the Pilot Operation method

Best way to guard against total system failure

Less risky than Total Changeover

Allows for more accurate post implementation testing

It is less expensive than running a parallel operation throughout the entire company
