IaaS• Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) takes off

but gets complicated• By 2013, IaaS providers that have built

their cloud IaaS offerings using enterprise-class rather than global-class technology will run into scalability challenges that the underlying vendors may be inadequately prepared to address.

• By the end of 2012, IaaS providers will have begun to form close partnerships with IT operations management vendors, or will have acquired one or more small vendors with cloudspecific capabilities. Verizon/Terremark's purchase of CloudSwitch is an example of such an acquisition.

• By 2016, "spot pricing" markets for cloud IaaS capacity will become a common way for organizations to source capacity for running non-time-critical, compute-intensive batch jobs that do not use sensitive data.

• Expected or realized cost savings of 30%–40% or Higher

• Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) takes off but gets complicated

• IaaS market leaders aren't immune to these cloud computing trends. Increased competition and pressure to grow profits will motivate them to expand into the SaaS and PaaS markets.
