• Music: The drums at the start tell you exactly which soap it is, as it is an iconic theme tune

• It has a very distinctive image of the Thames and can associated with London straight away. This tells

you that the soap is Eastenders.

• Image: You know straight away that the opening shot is of London as the camera zooms from a

close up of the O2 arena it establishes a location everybody knows of

• It is made very clear that the BBC has broadcast the soap as their logo is in the top left hand corner of the

shot, this is a convention that the BBC has set for themselves, and all programmes broadcast will have

this in the corner

• Image: You know straight away that the opening shot is of London, you can tell the shot is fairly modern, at least in the last 11 years as the O2

arena was built in 2000 as the Millennium Dome.

• Theme Tune: Because the theme tune is very dull and boring we associate the lives of the characters

in the soap to follow in ‘the same suit’ of the title music.

What do we assume about the lifestyles of the characters from

the music?
