DSS Context

Account for biophysical as well as human dimensions

Account for ecosystem processes at different spatial and

temporal scales

Use a spatially explicit representation of ecosystem

to support management of complex socio-ecosystem

Page 3: [Day 2] Center Presentation: ICIMOD (2/2)

Modeling our world

• model is a representation of reality

• models are created as a simplified,

manageable view of reality

• models help to understand, describe, or

predict how things work in the real world

The DST development is guided by the following objectives:

• Easy access to the existing data, information and knowledge

on related to socio-ecosystem

• Provide tools for systemic analysis of key management

issues and natural processes in socio-ecosystem

• Promote the use of scientific knowledge in the management

process

• Assist in developing a framework for monitoring and new

research
