Intercultural requirements of our society!?

Competence:Competence can be seen as the capability of an individual to act adequately at the required level in a given situation.

Intercultural competence: It becomes apparent in the capability of understanding, respecting and effectively using the cultural relativity of perception and judgment of oneself and other people.

Intercultural Action Competence

Learning with Social Software

How can intercultural action competence be developed using social software?

Social Software =

Social Software fosters the human communication, interaction and collaboration. It´s not about the tools, it´s more about an attitude or a philosophy.

Intercultural Action Competence

= The capability and disposition of

an individual to act in intercultural situations at a

required level of the domain, personally elaborated and in a

social responsible way. That means, goal-oriented solving of

intercultural problems, based on the own knowledge and

experience as well as solving them through own ideas, evaluating the

solutions and developing the individual capability to act

„In your reflection diary you should document your intercultural key experiences and reflect these on the basis of questions and further thoughts.“

Questions to think about...

• What is central and new in the situation? • How can the key situation be described? (when, where, why, who?) • How do the culture-specific opinions of the involved differ in the situation? • How did I behave concerning my cultural background in the situation?• How could another person behave with a different cultural background? • From which perspectives can I observe the situation? • How were the impressions before and how afterwards? • What kind of values do the participants in the situation have? • Why did an intercultural conflict evolve? • What are alternatives to behave in the specific situation? • Which stereotypes existed before? • Which role did communication problems play? • What can be marked as „typically “ in the situation? • ...

• Documentation of Intercultural Situations• Communication about Intercultural Situations• Feedback of acting in Intercultural Situations• Reflection about Intercultural Situations
