Background

“Take the Pledge” is a reminder to mankind to think and make the right decision about our environment for the future.

Aim

Take time and think for a moment is this the path that we chose.

Problem identification

The quality of air decrease year by year because of the frequent occurring of haze throughout the city. During haze season people

are starting to get in contact with diseases and illness. The department of environment suggested that these haze that happens

are from the neighboring countries which are burning crops to fertilize the soil. Usually this activity can be done without burning

the crops but it’s a fast job.

Aim and objective

To enlighten the society of today on how everything around them is being neglected to fulfill their needs.

Motivation

Beauty of nature shouldn’t be exploited and neglect to fulfill ones desire.

We live in a very beautiful planet everything is created for us our job is to take care of it and use it wisely to benefit our needs not wants

and desires.

Proposal 1 Fairy Dust

What is fairy dust?

Fairy dust is my representation of tiny dust particle that roam our air. I was intrigue by how this tiny particle came about. The are many source to this event one being natural sources and the other is

anthropogenic sources. Natural sources mainly comes from areas which has no vegetation that can be very dusty, digestion of food by

animals and volcanoes etc. anthropogenic sources are caused by industrial emissions, spray cans (hairspray, pesticides etc) and land

vehicles.

Personal Observation

As we can see today, there are many construction and development going on in the city. These construction are massive development agenda and they need a lot of things to carry out this project also

amount to a lot of equiptments, workers, supplies and etc.

In the compound of the construction we can almost tell that there is a lot of pollution being from sound to air. It’s hard to neglect the fact that everytime these huge truck pass by us there is bound to be a dust fairies floating in the air eventually entering your eyes and

nose if you are not in a protected environment.

Personally, these big construction and development are a result of human desires. Always wanting something bigger and better the

last. It is a good behavior to be competitive but I think humans are always pushing the limits and neglecting the one foundation that

holds us together; nature.

Depletion of ozone yearly

Every year our ozone layer gets thinner and thinner also it can patch up on its own if we

continue to cause pollution it slows down and during that moment harmful rays will penetrate the earth protective layer and can risk human’s health

Even in Malaysia itself we are facing problems that will effect our ozone layer. The air quality in our city is slowly getting worse and there’s nothing we can do about it. It a big job to control what is

going into our air when everything that is causing it is crucial for the development of our country which revolves in our daily life. Not to discriminate Malaysia or other country alike but we tend to go by

the saying of “Prevention is better than Cure” in reverse = “Cure is better that prevention” . Now leading electronic companies are

coming out with a new appliances such as air cleaners called Air Purifier, Plasma Cluster and etc which are specifically build for

indoor use.

Picture above is a result of accumulation of year 2012. A partially complete chart for

the year 2009 as we are still in August. So far from what I can see certain area has

already reached an unhealthy level of air quality and we are not yet at the end of the year.

upon a quote which is from a movie that I recently watched, it goes like this:-

The movie has some really interesting elements that i might use as reference for my project. The Lorax is base on Dr. Seuss [Theodor Seuss Geisel]‘s children’s book characters about the environment

and how it affects life and the future.

Although it highlights the extinction of trees, the effects [pollution] of it is what we [our planet] is going through now and its all around us waiting to get worse and like the quote says “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not”

by Dr.Seuss.

Gabriela Trembecka

The Academy of Art University is proud to announce that MFA Fine Art alumnus Gabriela Trembecka was chosen to represent the Academy at the Regional Student Juried Exhibition in Portland, Oregon.

Her installation, entitled Exordium, was comprised of one hundred high-fired porcelain bells. The installation centered around "Fear" as a theme, and featured pieces called "Enunciations" and "Repentance."

If I Were a Bell is an installation which includes seven small ceramic bells hanging from the ceiling. The bells were made in Arcosanti, the prototype city built in the desert of Arizona by Italian architect Paolo Soleri. Both the city and the bells are based upon the same principles of natural growth, which regard sustainability and education as primary elements. The traditional production technique used for the bells has been taken by Soleri on the much larger scale of architecture and urbanism. Therefore the small bells represent the philosophy and economic sustainability of an idea, by transferring it on a level and a shape that are only apparently different from the original – but they are, in fact, extremely linked to it.
