What is today about?
The Supporting Literature
Let’s start at the end
I would argue that if there is one overarching ‘thing’ that you take from your degree when you graduate in 2016 is….
An increased sense of ‘self-awareness’
(In my opinion)
But first…We must consider:“Why is increased self-awareness important?”
Let’s work backwards again
• Your degree will lead to increased sense of self-awareness.
• This module will lead to increased sense of self-awareness.
• Studying communication will lead to increased sense of self-awareness.
• Studying your own communication tendencies will lead to increased sense of self-awareness.
• Studying your Non Verbal Communication will lead to increased sense of self-awareness.
The ‘SW’ part of the SWOT
Communication task 1
• Organise yourselves in terms of the date of your birth – only by number i.e. 17th next to 19th next to 21st etc.
Communication task 2
• Organise yourselves into groups based upon the month in which you were born.

What is Self-Awareness?
Burnard (1992) defines self-awareness as: “The process of getting to know your feelings, attitudes and values. It is also learning about the effect you have on others”.
Our own ‘Self’ is the tool
Conclusion: why self-aware communication?
Self awareness brings self-confidenceSelf awareness inspires confidence in the people that we work with.
