Expected Date:

Number of time units between each issue.

Issues in the cycle:

Number of issues expected in a given time frame.

Interval:

Day(s), Week(s), Month(s), and Year(s)

Expected Date and Interval work together to create the expected time period between receipt of issues.

The % will be converted into a number once the pattern is created.

Enumeration:

•Enter desired caption (include all punctuation)•Enter a % •If other punctuation is needed, add after the %

Continuity:

•Select either continuous or restart.

Chronology:

•Choose from the drop down menu.•Selections from top to bottom will read from left to right in pattern.

Alternate Enumeration/ Chronology:

•Select to add whole numbering.•Select to add an alternate chronology level.

This screen displays after submit is clicked.

This is the issue cycle grid. Each row represents an issue in the pattern. Each cell will require formatted data.

Page 9: Discovery and Application of Voyager's New Complex Publication Patterns

Each cell of the grid requires data in one of two formats:

Issue increments or Constant values

Constant valuesIssue increments

Page 10: Discovery and Application of Voyager's New Complex Publication Patterns

Constant Values

Any value that will remain constant throughout issue cycles can be placed in quotes.

If an item is always published on the 15th day of the month “15” can be entered.

Example: months are commonly a constant value throughout issue cycles and can be placed in quotes.

Page 11: Discovery and Application of Voyager's New Complex Publication Patterns

In this pattern each volume consisted of 2 issues, therefore “1” and “2” were entered.

The months were placed in quotes as were the dates because this information remained constant throughout issue cycles.

Issue increments

Issue increments are used when a value will not remain constant throughout issue cycles.

Continuous numbering must be represented with issue increments.

Example: when years are used in patterns, they will increment upward continuously, therefore issue increments are needed.

In order for the year to increment upward every cycle a +1 is needed to increase the year by one at the beginning of a new cycle. If “2006” was used instead, the year would never roll to 2007 and beyond.

+1 indicates an increase of one from the previous issue.

+0 indicates no change from the last issue.

The volume increments upward every other issue. +1 and +0 are used to obtain the desired result. If quotes were used the volume would increment properly until the new cycle started. At that point the new cycle would repeat the same volume numbers as the previous year.

A Completed Pattern

Notice the parentheses? If you want this formatting around dates add on the

issue cycle screen.

Page 15: Discovery and Application of Voyager's New Complex Publication Patterns

Complex patterns are started in the same way as regular patterns. This is where the user will input values for the issue increments as well as the constant data.

Page 16: Discovery and Application of Voyager's New Complex Publication Patterns

If the data entered in the “Start Complex Prediction” window does not correspond to an issue described in the issue cycle tab the “Select a starting Issue” window will display. Simply select the starting issue and select OK.

Projecting Dates

04/10/23 18

•Complex patterns allow the user to generate projected arrival dates for publications expected on certain days of the month.

•MARC values for the days of the week are valid in combination with a designation for first, second, third, fourth, fifth, third to last, next to last and last day of the month.

Examples

•01:mo will generate the date of the first Monday of every month.

•04:tu will generate the date of the fourth Tuesday of every month.

•99:fr will generate the date of the last Friday of every month.
