Getting Started
You will need:
A Waukegan Public Library card
An Adobe ID
Your smartphone or tablet
Wi-Fi connectivity
Open the App Store. Search for OverDrive and download the free app.
You will be asked to create a free OverDrive account. Tap Sign up.
Enter the required information and tap Sign up.
Tap the Home menu to add a library.
Enter the ZIP code to find the Waukegan Public Library. Tap Search.
Tap Waukegan Public Library to select it.
Tap the star to save your library selection, then tap the arrow to view the library’s eBook collection.
You can browse by genre and collection, or you can search for a title or author with the magnifying glass.
HINT: A dark gray icon in the top right corner of a book means there are copies available for download. A light gray icon means all copies are in use.
Tap the cover of the book you want to read, then tap More.
Check to see if the title is available as an Adobe EPUB eBook. Tap Borrow to check out the eBook.
Enter your library card number to sign in.
Tap the Download button, then choose EPUB eBook. Finally, tap Confirm & Download.
Tap the OverDrive menu button in the top left corner. Tap Bookshelf. Tap the cover to begin reading.
To return an eBook early on an Apple device, navigate to your Bookshelf. Tap and hold the book’s cover.
Tap the Return button, then tap Return again.
To return an eBook early on an Android device, open the eBook and press the Menu button, then tap Delete.
Tap Return then Delete.
You will have the option to Renew an eBook starting 3 days before the due date. This places an advanced hold on the title so that you may check it out again immediately after it expires.
Visit downloads.waukeganpl.org and Sign In with your library card number.
Hint: A green arrow means you can check the book out again right away. A gray arrow means other patrons have a hold on that title, but you can still reserve a spot on the holds list.
Click on Account to view your bookshelf. Eligible titles will have a Renew option below the due date.
Enter and confirm your email address, then click Renew. You will receive an email notification when the title is available to check out again. Click on the email link to borrow the book.
General Information
You may check out up to 6 eBooks per library card.
Because eBooks are returned automatically at the end of the loan period, it is impossible to accrue overdue fines.
eBooks not owned by Waukegan Public Library cannot be obtained through interlibrary loan. You may suggest an eBook purchase on the library’s website or by speaking with a librarian.
Only patrons with Waukegan Public Library cards may download eBooks.
If the title you want is checked out, you may place a hold on it, just like a physical library book.
eBooks have a limit of one renewal per title.
Enjoy your eBook!
