What is an Earthquake?

• The first national earthquake drill held in the world.

• To teach people how to survive an Earthquake

• To help people and organisations and to get ready for an earthquake.

“Shakeout Earthquake Drill”

• The Shake out drill will take place on 26 September at 9:26am

• This time and date was set because it fits in with the school term

• It is on a Wednesday morning when people will be going about their normal daily business

CHRISTCHURCH VICTIMS

• Brian Coker was heading down to lunch when the earthquake struck and destroyed the Pyne Gould corporation building. A concrete wall fell on him and he was pinned down for hours. When he was pinned down he was thinking of two things, texting his wife Helen or not worry her, but he wanted to tell his wife that he loved her.

Christchurch victims

• He was rescued by his wife who alerted the rescue team. The rescue team saved Brian by cutting his legs off with a hacksaw and a foldout knife. If they did not do this he would have been dead. He says he owes his life to his wife Helen.
