The  Romanian  Associa0on  for  the  Promo0on  of  the  Advanced  Computa0onal  Methods  

in  Scien0fic  Research  (ARCAŞ)  gathers  together  scientists,  IT  professionals,  and  ins>tu>ons  

engaged   in   the   use   of   high   performance   compu>ng   technologies   and     methods   for  

scien>fic  research.  

ARCAŞ  is  a  Romanian  private  legal  en>ty,  apoli>cal,  non-­‐governmental,  non-­‐profit,  which  

complies  with  the  Romanian  laws  in  force.  

ARCAŞ  is  an  independent,  democra>c  organisa>on  of  high  professional  competence.  

The   purpose   of   ARCAŞ   is   to   unify   and   coordinate   at   na>onal   level   the   efforts   of   the  

scien>fic  community  towards  the  promo>on  and  development  of  advanced  computa>onal  

methods   and   the   realiza>on   of   a   sustainable   compu>ng   infrastructure   for   scien>fic  

research.

ARCAŞ    was  founded  in  July  2011  by  a  group  of  professionals  from  

   Alexandru  Ioan  Cuza  University  of  Iasi  (UAIC)  

   Horia  Hulubei  Na>onal  Ins>tute  for  Physics  and  Nuclear  Engineering  (IFIN-­‐HH)  

   Ins>tute  for  Space  Sciences  (ISS)  

   Politehnica  University  of  Bucharest  (UPB)  

   Romanian  Spa>al  Agency  (ROSA)  

   Technical  University  of  Cluj-­‐Napoca  (UTCN)  

   West  University  of  Timisoara  (UVT)  

The   associa>on   is   open   for   new   members   and   will   soon   aYract   the   most  

representa>ve   ins>tu>ons   and   professionals   in   the   field   of   computa>onal  

sciences  and  informa>on  technologies.

   Organisa>on  of  a  na>onal  competence  network  for  the  evalua>on  of  the  so]ware  applica>ons  and  alloca>on  of  compu>ng  >me,  composed  of  researchers  with  HPSC  experience;

The  main  objec0ves  of  ARCAŞ  are:  

   Support  of  the  development  and  applica>on  of  advanced  computa>onal  methods  in  scien>fic  research,  such  as  HPC,  Grid  compu>ng,  and  cloud  compu>ng.  

   Representa>on  of  the  professional  interests  of  the  providers  and  beneficiaries  of  the  resources  and  services  for  High  Performance  Scien>fic  Compu>ng  (HPSC)  

   Par>cipa>on  in  the  elabora>on  of  the  projects  of  norma>ve  acts,  of  na>onal  standards,  and  regula>ons  in  the  HPSC  field.  

   Par>cipa>on  in  European  and  na>onal  projects
