Integration of Moldova in European Research Area •  Moldova signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the association

of Moldova to the EU's Seventh Research Framework Programme. •  For European ERA integration a grate interest presents successful

introduction of the global informational society technologies and services into scientific-educational community of Moldova through integration of RENAM in Trans-European R&E network GEANT and other European e-Infrastructure initiatives.

•  Due to support of the EC regional projects National Grid Initiative in Moldova was established and from 2010 NGI of Moldova is a partner in EGI-Inspire project. New regional HP-SEE project was launched in September 2010 and now in Moldova is forming HPC users’ community and respective national initiative.

•  Important contribution to the development of eInfrastructure in Moldova was provided, however there is still significant gap between developed Western European countries and Eastern Europe, including Moldova;

•  Though significant international contribution in the development of e-Infrastructure in Moldova was provided, however now for sustainable operation and development e-Infrastructure in Moldova the main priority is obtaining support at national level.

  Premises: - Strategic Program for Governance Technological Modernization proposed by the Government of the R.M., which stipulates the implementation of action plan for transformation of the Republic of Moldova into society based on knowledge; - The recently launched Governmental Program of e-transformation is financed by World Bank; - The RENAM Association’s activity oriented on the continue development of e-infrastructure for the scientific and educational community and other profile organizations in Moldova.   Actions: - To strength the coordination of NREN activities by the governmental authorities (the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communication, the Ministry of Health, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and others). This can be done by participating of their representatives in decision making in the framework of NREN Governing Council. - To implement a new model of NREN funding, which presumes four sources of funding:

•  State financing has to cover predetermined set of basic services and costs of NREN backbone operation on the base of bilateral contracts with Academy of Sciences as main authority for all research institutions of Moldova and with Ministry of Education or its representative for educational sector; •  Contracts with interested institutions for providing specific services and implementation of new technologies that are necessary only for target institutions; •  International projects for the development of e-infrastructure components, new services implementation as GRID, HPC, Cloud computing, etc. •  National projects for implementation of policies, programs, strategies, that are developing and realizing at National level.
