Cloud for profit and governance

Amazon Namma Bengaluru Amazon is famous for pioneering

a whole new business ecosystem in its deployment of the business cloud in the form of its Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2006,.

In a report* last year, it is noted that Amazon accepted “That the number of objects stored on its S3 cloud storage service hit 449 billion in the Q2, 2011, a massive jump from the262 billion objects stored on Amazon S3 in Q4, 2010.

Also, the S3 processed 290,000 requests per second at peak times, up from 200,000 at the end of 2010”.

PwC reports $5.9 bn global revenue for Amazon by 2014

Brihat Bengalurur Mahanagarpalike (BBMP) has collected funds and processed and paid payments totalling Rs 10 billion in 2012-13

citizens have received payments receipts from the BBMP cloud after deposting- house tax, building cess, conservancy charges and fees for birth and death registration etc etc.

BU processed may-June 2010 semester exam papers for 200000 plus students (in atleast four papers each) and made available the answer scripts on the cloud reducing marks revaluation requests to a mere 9000 from 99000 in the previous year

Police Evolution in Holland is inspired by the Political set up fighting the King to set up a democracy in place of the ruling monarchy

Johan Rudolf Thorbecke (January 14, 1798 – June 4, 1872) was one of the most important Dutch politicians.◦ In 1848, he drafted the revision of the Dutch constitution

giving less power to the king and more to the parliament. ◦ He served (1849–52) as the first constitutional premier of

the Netherlands and was twice more premier (1862–66, 1871–72).

◦ He gave Catholics equal rights with Protestants, extended the electorate, removed trade restrictions, and initiated projects for the construction of canals for reclaiming land from the sea.

◦ His reforms influenced the areas of Elections, Municipalities, Education and Transportation.

◦ He is credited with initiating Police Reforms in that country.

A quote from Thorbecke…

In Holland Police reforms were initiated in 1977, 1993 and then again in 2006 and now they are looking for further changes to be made to tackle terrorism and other situations in a multi ethnic society

It is worth extracting a quote from Thorbecke in his 1871 Historical Essays that formed the Introduction to the 1977 Dutch report called “The Changing Police” initiating reforms in Dutch Police.

“Will we dwell in what our forefathers bestowed upon us; will we not do any thing ourselves, will we resist timely advance; well then, rather than advance, we will face decline. Each era has its own principle of motion; if one lets this lie, the following era will suffer commotion.”

In our life time if we do not do anything about Police Reforms, Criminal Justice system restructuring and good governance we shall be failing in our duty towards our future generations

Article 51 A introduced on December 18, 1976 by virtue of the Constitutional (Forty Second) Amendment Act 1976. The new Part IVA is titled FUNDAMENTAL DUTIES :

It shall be the duty of every citizen of India -(a) to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem;(b) to cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired our national struggle for freedom;(c) to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India;(d) to defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so;(e) to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities; to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women;(f) to value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture;(g) to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life, and to have compassion for living creatures;(h) to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform;(i) to safeguard public property and to abjure violence;(j) to strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement.
