• Evolution of Man

Our species evolved well over 250, 000 years ago in the African continent.

They learned to live off of the land by hunting for their food, and eating plants which supplemented their diets.

The constant move of herds and a harsh environment led them to migrate northward into Europe.

• AGRICULTURE

Agriculture was key to way of the new world. The Fertile Crescent was rich with soil and provided excellent use of this precious resource.

It revolutionized the use of farming techniques and use of domestic animals. “an extraordinary variety of wild plants and animals provided a rich array of species on which the hunting people could draw”(Strayer, pg 39).

• MESOPOTAMIAMesopotamian society flourished during this period and led to the creation of laws, culture, literacy, religion and more importantly an economy that society could rely on.

Agriculture was a global phenomena and the Cradle of Civilization began in this geographical location. The agricultural revolution continued to expand towards Eurasia and to the Americas

• Status and Wealth

Successful agriculture within a civilization also led to a hierarchy system.

The wealthy profited from the agriculture which secured their status and safe existence. Slaves were forced to work within the fields that supported society.

Societies competed and maintained working relationships. This ensured the balance of commerce.

• EURASIAThe push of civilization into Eurasia created the Greco-Roman, and Chinese cultures. The Classical era came into the fold.

Alexander the Great united the Greeks and expanded the empire And China ruled their lands with great influence over their subjects.

Both of these great powers lent much technological and cultural influence to the New World.

• Religion

Religions helped shape the second wave of civilizations.

Christianity was established in Roman culture.

Confucians’ writing and teachings were established. Daoism was also utilized.

Buddahism was also a key role in Indian society.

• Roman Culture & ReligionThe Empire included the Mediterranean basin – Britannia, North Africa and ancient Mesopotamia.

Greek engineering and culture was evident in the ancient world and is still marveled at to this day.

Religion played a big factor with the population. Christianity still exists to this day. It is also followed by many cultures on a global scale.

• Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddahism

Confucius led religion with his teachings in the ancient Chinese culture. The emperor implemented the religion and ruled his subject while practicing it. Daoism was also available and taught people to be one with nature.

Buddhism was created in India which provided the culture with the power of enlightenment. The Prince gave up his throne to devote his life to his Buddhist teachings.
