Experimental pharmacology, in the broadest sense, deals with the reactions of living organisms to the drug during experimentation.
Pre clinical studiesClinical studies
Pure research-Behavioural, Developmental, Functional
Applied research-Specific activity
Xenotransplantation-Transplant of tissue or organ from one species to other
Toxicological studies-Safety studies
Cell culture –Growth of cells under controlled conditions
Immunostaining
–
Specialised histological methods to
localise
proteins in cells or tissue slices. Antibody directed
against the protein –
Antigen-antibody reaction-Veiwed
under flouroscence
microscopy
Computational genomics –
Computational analysis to
decipher biology from genome sequences and related data
Transfection
–
deliberately introducing nucleic acids into
cells
Stem cell culture –
Umbilical cord stem cell culture
DNA Sequencing and Genomics –To determine the order of nucleotide bases in a strand of DNA
Gene knockdown –
Mutation of a selected gene.
Polymerase Chain reaction(PCR) –
to amplify a
single or a strand of DNA across several orders of magnitude, generating a no. of copies of of
that
particular DNA sequence
Research is an area which sees continuous growth and which sees no stagnation. Pharmacological research is one area wherein the outcome is life saving and very essential to mankind.
Ayurvedic drugs are known to act since time immemorial but their modes of actions are to be understood.
These updates of research help in better understanding of our drugs and their actions and can be incorporated into Ayurvedic Drug Research.
Pinpoint identification of the problem and pinpoint treatment is possible through Ayurveda and these methods definitely help in providing better understanding in this regard.
