Twist and Shout scene
FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF
http://youtu.be/RaIjYvIayj0
LINK TO THE SCENE
Music is diegetic – you can hear what the characters are hearing, makes you feel as though you are there.
Song at the start of the scene acts as backing for init ial conversation, leads into twist and shout – up tempo number, makes the audience happy and want to join in
Music mirrors main character’s traits – ‘cheeky chappy’ want to know and get along with him, interesting character
SOUND
Two shot at the beginning shows friendship between the characters
Camera usually medium-long shot, see what Ferris is performing – entertaining to watch
Camera shoots from diff erent angles and perspectives, flashes to all the various people taking part – they’re entertained and having fun, so you are too. Makes you feel as though you are there looking at the same things.
Wide shots to show the full scale of the number
CAMERA
Occasionally the frames change along with bars of the music ‘Ferris’ is singing, this makes the audience connect with the song using visual and audible techniques. Perhaps feel like they’re dancing along?
Faster clips than the beginning of the scene, as it is a faster song. Makes the scene seem busier and more exciting
EDITING
Lots of colour in the costumes, visually appealing, lots to look at and keeps the audiences attention
Everyone looks happy and are dancing along, shows that the main character not only appeals to a few people. If you were there you would be doing the same
Big dance numbers, good weather, makes you feel warm and positive
Microphone and instruments, even though he’s not singing – showman/showoff , good entertainer keeps the audience attention and backs up what was previously said at the beginning of the scene
MISE EN SCENE
I believe that I like it because:
. Catchy song, memorable scene
. Makes you want to be involved, want to join their journey
. Getting into mischief – cheeky teen, comedy aspects
