What is memristor ?
What is memristor ?
WHAT IS IT ?
• # The fourth mystery element that joins the capacitor, inductor and resistor.
• # A type of electrical circuit.
MEMRISTOR
Memristor is really a MEMory ResISTOR
Memristor can be defined as a two
terminal device which shows the
relation between magnetic flux
and charge
memristor symbol
The term Memristor was first proposed by Leon Chaua in 1971 when he was a rising professor atThe University of California Berkeley
LEON.O.CHUA
Basic Working Principle
MEMRISTORemristor
A memristor is a non-linear resistor, a resistor whose resistance changes over time based on the amount of current that has passed through it.
Memristor Analogy
BENEFITS OF MEMRISTORUse less energy and produce less heat.
Does not lose information when turned off.
Have great data density.
Combines the jobs of working memory and hard drives into one tiny device.
Faster and less expensive than MRAM.
Nonvolatile memories
Booting free computers
Logic/computing
Artificial Brain
Future
Memcapacitor and
Meminductor
Development of nonvolatile memory with a memristor base.
HP is currently focusing on this possibility.Use less power.More magnetic than magnetic disks.
Could lead to replacement of the transistor
Could be put in mobile phones as monitoring devices to track the pollution and other things in environment.
Future Technological
Significance
To conclude
It is sure that Memristor is going to revolutionaries the 21st century as radically as the transistor in the 20th century
But Memristor will have to wait a few years for a killer app like transistor which had to wait almost a decade after it’s invention for the killer app in the form of hearing aids
Finally as Leon O Chua mentioned
It’s time to rewrite all the EE textbooks”
