How did you use new media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
List of Technology used
Camcorder, tripod, blog, Nikon camera, YouTube, Microsoft word, PowerPoint, adobe premiere pro CS4 (editing software), adobe Photoshop CS4, any video convertor, mobile phone, Paint, scanner, Windows movie maker.
Internet research and planning• The use of The Internet. YouTube especially aided me
during my research on existing music videos task, helping me to get an idea of contemporary RnB music videos, comparing the different elements within the videos of the same genre.
• Watching previous A2 students media products to get a head start was also helpful, able me to analyse the pros and cons when making a music video.
Paint• During the planning stage for my ancillary tasks, I
used Paint to produce some of my initial sketches as it’s easy to use and less time consuming, I would definitely use the program again.
Scanner
• Luckily my printer has a built-in scanner so I was able to scan up sketches onto the computer then transfer onto the blog,
• It also keeps extra copies, in case original copy is lost.
Camera, Camcorder, Tripod • The camcorder and tripod played a substantial role
during my production process, we used Cannon handycam to film our clips. The camcorder was straightforward to use with many useful functions.
• It has the playback feature, which allowed me to check the quality
• Tripod – steady shots of the scenes, made sure they fit in the mise en scene, avoided ‘cutting heads off’ within the frames.
• Nikon Camera has high mega pixel which increased our photo quality, and brought high resolution images.
Any video convertor• The software any video convertor came
handy when converting our raw video clips to wmv format, it was quick and easy to use.
Blog Research and Planning Microsoft Office: Word and PowerPoint
• I used PowerPoint in order to present my evaluation
• Word allowed me to type up my ideas, also the spell check helped to me reduce spelling mistakes.
Editing, Adobe Photoshop• For my ancillary task, I used Photoshop to edit my
magazine cover and digipak. • It has many editing functions, crop, resizing• Numerous effects, for example: Black and white
effect.• Additional benefit is that contains many layers,
meaning the texts, image, logo etc can be edited separately. And also if something goes wrong, the other features wont be effected.
Macromedia Firework
• A simple photo editing software allowed me to panel the photo shopped images into the digipak template.
Blog• Throughout the project, I uploaded blogs to keep track of the
work i have completed so I know what stage I am at and what I need to do next. The blog allowed me to display my ideas, images, sketches with notes to explain my work in a more detailed answer.
• More efficient than paper work, as it prevent any work being lost throughout.
• Ease to improve piece of work, can going back and update information.
Windows Movie Maker
Windows movie maker is the only editing software I have at home thus during my evaluation stage, I used the software to put my ideas together as it captures recorded video, pictures and also has the function to record narrative voiceovers. I found it efficient to use, the over 130 effects, transitions, titles, and credits available were especially beneficial to me as I was more imaginative when producing my work.
Editing my production in Premiere ProPremiere Pro is known for being the industry standard editing software,
it’s a more complex, up to date program. By using premiere pro instead of common movie editing software e.g. movie maker, it increases precision in cutting, there are more effects including audio effects, transitions, video effects and transitions in order to tweet bits of my music video. For example I used ‘crossfade’ for the start of the video.
I believe I developed the most skill in Premiere Pro as I spent a large amount of time editing my music video, it allowed me to be extra creative during the production stage which then again enhances the quality of my portfolio.
MediumsDuring my evaluation stages, I used a number of online publishing
website to present my evaluations, for example Flickr, Photobucket, Scribd and also YouTube.
- Flickr, an online photo management and sharing application in the world. I uploaded my ancillary task onto Flickr in order to receive further audience feedback, this aided me to get a broader opinion of my project.
- Photobucket, a website which offers image hosting, free photo, video, slideshow sharing. I presented one of my evaluation task via Photobucket as it was free, straightforward to use and also give codes for posting immediately after.
- Scribd, a Web 2.0 based document-sharing website where millions of people can share original writings and documents. Scribd helped me to present one of my evaluation (which was created in Microsoft word), it was effortless to put it online and made my work easy to view.
- YouTube, a well known, daily used website for people to discover, watch, upload and share videos. YouTube is another form of medium I used to present my work, where people can rate, like and comment below the video.
