Does RCNUWC wants to ¤ live up the Ecovillage dream?

¤ discourage factory farming? ¤ encourage subsistence farming?

If YES....Then Munty, Yasas and Modestas presents....

The Greenhouse

Page 3: Green house

How does the green house work?

The sun radiation (infrared, ultraviolet and visible light) goes inside the green house

Reflection from the surfaceInfrared does not escapeIncreases the temperature

moisture• Plants can be grown

Page 4: Green house

What could be grown in the greenhouse?

Depends on the temperature, humidity and soil fertility

Temperature: 25 – 30 °C C4 plants (high daylight temperatures and

humidity) Cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots

Page 5: Green house

ACKNOWLEDGING THAT:

• VEGETATION OF CUCUMBER, TOMATO AND SALAD PLANTS TAKES 60 DAYS• HARVEST CAN BE TAKEN 5 TIMES PER YEAR

•40 KG OF VEGETABLES ARE USED TO PREPARE FOOD BY KANTINA• TOTAL MASS OF REQUIRED VEGETABLES PER YEAR WOULD BE 14 ,400 KG• EACH HARVEST IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE 2 ,880 KG• MASS YIELD OF TOMATOES AND CUCUMBERS APPROXIMATELY ARE 10 KG*M - 2

• EFFECTIVE AREA OF THE GREENHOUSE IS 2888 /10 = 300 M 2

• ADDITIONAL AREA = 100 M 2 (FOR PATHS, EQUIPMENT, DRAINAGE)• TOTAL AREA = 400 M 2

What is the area of a greenhouse?

Page 6: Green house

WE DID A RESEARCH AROUND THE SCHOOL PREMISES TO FIND A SUITABLE PLACE TO

ESTABLISH THE GREEN HOUSE.

The Location For A Green House

Page 7: Green house

Things we considered

The size of the placeDoes it have the access to resources (water,

transport and electricity)Ownership of the land

Page 8: Green house
Page 9: Green house

Estimated size for the Green house is 400 m².

The size of the selected place is 2500 m²

we have enough space in that place to build the green house and to do other projects like compost station, irrigation, etc

Is there enough space?

Energy for the green

house

Page 11: Green house

Energy for the green house

A Micro-hydro power station.Energy from falling water. Used to light the green house  and provide

suitable temperatures for plant growth. The  micro-hydro power station produces

from 5kW to 100kW which is enough.Summer climate dries waterfallsDuring the summer the green house relies on

heat and light produced by sun radiation

Page 12: Green house

The places to establish the power plant.

The little water falls around the campus.

There is quite big one in front of the Haugland

Page 13: Green house

Efficiency of the power plant

The green house uses an approximation of 30kw for 2500 hours

Power plant produces a considerable amount of greenhouse's heat and electrical needs.

This is about a third of the power produced by the small scale hydro-power station. The power station is very efficient in this case.

Page 14: Green house

What is the price of the Green House?

•Price per 1 m2 is 890 NOK•Price per 400 m2 is 350,000 NOK

This fantastic offer includes modern irrigation and light systems.
