OverviewFoto Jug is a private project by Rade Jug, an internationally renowned landscape photographer. He works from the Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of the most beautiful national parks in the world. Rade’s passion for photography and nature led him from being a hobbyist to opening a professional photo studio, where he produces high quality artistic photo products for his private collection, sale and photographic exhibitions. He also works closely with a local photography club. He is a long-time user of Canon photography equipment and is increasingly involved in 3D photography projects.

Challenge Rade Jug is a passionate photographer and invests enormous effort into his work, which covers the entire process from shooting photographs to printing them. To fully realize his vision, his aim is to retain full control over the entire production process. “Before purchasing a large format printer, I had some of my large format photographs printed by printing service providers. However, I was only rarely completely satisfied with their end results. The color profiles and details in photographs were lost or were not reproduced as I had intended, “ explains Rade Jug.

His approach to his work and artistic photography in general require consistency, particularly with multiple print-outs of the same photographs. Since the nearest printing service provider is in Zagreb, a two-and-a-half hour drive from Plitvice, having his photographs produced by printing service providers also entailed substantial additional costs. For this reason Jug used a professional A3+ format printer for a few years; however, this was not an appropriate solution as it did not produce the right quality prints and had high costs of printing.

Solution After deciding to buy a printer for his photo studio that would be suitable for artistic prints and researching different products available on the market, he chose Canon iPF8300 Large Format Printer. He was looking for a tool suitable for fine art printing and the 12-ink system used by Canon offered the highest quality prints. “My decision was mostly based on my loyalty to the brand I have trusted throughout my entire career, but other factors, such as user feedback, availability, and printing costs, also influenced my final decision,” says Rade.

“Working with such a dedicated photographer is easy, because he knows exactly what he needs in order to achieve his goals. He needs his printer to deliver the best quality and he has found what he needs in Canon iPF8300. This printer can turn his work into internationally renowned art products,” stressed Nedeljko Trgovec, owner at Copia Forum, who closed the deal.

The Canon printer ensures premium printing quality with the maximum resolution of 600 dpi and enables him to produce large enlargements with excellent balance of colors and shades. This is an important feature for Jug, because printers may change color profiles and other settings and he cannot consider the end product as his creative work. Customers who buy his photographs as art products also appreciate this fact.

“A printer of such quality and performance as Canon iPF8300 is not merely a tool but a part of the creative process because the photographer can use it to create his vision. From the perspectives of technical design, printing properties and efficiency, this printer is without competition on the market, particularly because operating costs are lower than with comparable A3+ inkjet printers. “

meter or at about 6 EUR/m2, while the cost of printing on his old printer was 50 EUR/m2. Speed is not a factor; what he requires are the best printing properties and reliability. His work is frequently printed during the night to ensure consistently high performance and quality. To date, he has used Canon iPF8300 to produce 300-400 square meters of prints.

“I strongly believe that for amateur and professional photographers living in an area without a nearby printing service owning a printer such as Canon iPF8300 is the best investment. Apart from that, the format fits my work volume so that I’m not limited by the size of the enlargements,” reinforces Jug.

AchievementsFor printing on Canon iPF8300, Jug mainly uses the Canon 240g photo paper and canvases as well as special Hahnemüle paper. His prints mostly include framed enlarged photographs (90 x 60 cm). “The majority of these photographs are intended for my private collection, while others are exhibited, displayed in business offices or sold to customers. I also use Canon iPF8300 to print invitations, certificates and other materials for the local photography club,” explains Jug.

“I considers high-quality and cost-effective printing as the printer’s greatest advantage,” he stresses. Compared to his former device, the new printer substantially reduced his printing costs. He estimates the overall ink consumption to be approximately between 15 and 20 ml of ink per square
