WELCOME TO THE MACHINE
PART ONE: “THE QUESTIONS”
?
TECHNOLOGYWhat does that word mean to you?Remember your answer to that questionBecause it may be about to change
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TECHNOLOGY TO DO FOR YOU?
OR TO YOU?
As we define the role technology will play in our lives, we cannot ignore the polarizing effect
it is already responsible for.
Shouldn’t it be shrinking?
The gap between the technically literate and illiterate is growing
And Most Importantly
How come we STILL don’t have personal jetpacks?
WELCOME TOTHE MACHINE
THINGS TO CONSIDER
Computers and the internet have combined to create the most powerful communication tool in history.
We now have the ability to communicate with the world at previously unheard of or imagined ease and speed
Yet everyday we become more and more isolated…
ARE WE COMING TOGETHER?ARE WE COMMUNICATING?
With all our time-saving technology
It seems like we are more hurried than ever
Technology has cultivated genius ….
Never before have so many been empowered to contribute to mankind’s
collective head…
Yet never before has that collective head….
Been so far up our collective backside……
Millions of people place the most intimatedetails of their lives online…
forming “virtual global communities”
But they have no idea who or what lives next door….
Online chat rooms are booming..
People spend hour after hour endlessly chatting with a “cyber friend”….
Then go to sleep with their back to the one they love….
nothing to say……
Then try listening for a change…
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE
Very soon being technically illiteratewill carry the same stigma and
handicaps that not being able to read holds today…THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MOMENT
The percentage of people who are
unable to functionally read and write is tragic…
and growing…
The Question Nobody Wants to Ask :
What happens when these people are joined
by the “technically illiterate” trying to secure
employment in a shrinking number of unskilled
labor positions????
You wont need the machine to answer that question
you will be able to ask your daughters new fiancé..
Many feel that with things like nano-technologythe machine will have the ability to extend our lives for hundreds or even thousands of years.
What will we do with all the people???
technology can solve that problem for us as well
The machine is not our friend
The machine IS:
The machine is not our enemy
A fact of life that requires your attention
There will always be exceptions…but it is becoming clear that society Is
breaking down into two classes of people
You are either one of those who runs the machine….
or one of those the machine runs over..
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE
PART TWO: “THE ANSWERS”
JUST HOW SCREWED ARE YOU?
Technology is in it’s infancy...none of us will be around to see it mature completely.
Like all things, the mature technology will be a reflection of the
way it is allowed to develop in its formative years.
So in addition to adapting tothe changes technology promises
We are also responsible for making sure that those who come after us will
not have to deal the changes technology threatens.
So while the effects technology will bring to the workplace is our focus
today….
It is vital that you be an educated, active voice in the debate technology
will surely bring us tomorrow
Get educated today so that you can stay employable and competitive.
Almost every industry on the planet is going through the same rapid technological changes
we are facing in radio
If a component of any industry or an entire industry itself does not, or cannot change
and adapt it is quickly being replaced
This is surprising nobody, everybody is awarethis is happening all around them…
Don’t bury your head in the sand and try to convince yourself that the same thing does not
apply to your job
AND EQUALLY AS IMPORTANT
Get educated so tomorrow you can participate in possibly the most important
dialogue in the history of mankind
The machine has brought with it all the earmarksAnd potential of an elitist society
If common people do not stay informed and educated, the decisions that control our lives
will be made in laboratories, at universities and in private government meetings
When common people lose touch with the ideas and philosophies that make up the framework of our lives we are no longer people. We become parts of the machine
Technology can bring us many blessings and things we cannot even imagine today. If we
cannot meet our responsibility to stay educated we may very possibly surrender things like
humanity compassion
God
liberty
Nothing is worth that…
Not even personal jetpacks…
TECHNOLOGYWhat does that word mean to you?Remember your answer to that questionBecause it may be about to change
