Embed Size (px)

DESCRIPTION

A case study that shows how InfoBeans provided a robust open source option for web content management for a publishing company. The use of Drupal to create a web 2.0 style website that enhances user's stickiness is the highlight of this implementation. An offshore team in India along with an onsite project manager was able to successfully deliver immense value to the organization in a lot less time than initially estimated.

The Business Need

• Build a “CAD Tips” wiki from Cadalyst Microsoft Access Tips database and library of Hot Tip Harry columns

• Establish Cadalyst as the place to find CAD programming code on the web

• Improve the frequency of same-person visits to “CAD Tips”• 1700+ odd tips were distinguished just on the basis on Topic

and it needed better ways to classify and categorize them• Make Tip search powerful enough to help drive traffic• External Search Engines could not index the bundled tip code

files• Existing site lacked Web 2.0 features like comments , rating

etc and was not conducive to audience engagement

The Technology Need

• Making the tips searchable and index-able via Google and other search engines was critical to success for the client

• System did not have enough support for metadata without which search engine optimization was impossible

• Highly useful tips could not be downloaded individually• Increase traffic on the site. Single-access users would likely

browse additional pages; new users would find the site via SEO

• A clean, simple and intuitive user interface had to be built. • Client did not have a good idea of UI design issues, so needed

inputs from InfoBeans

Business Solution

• UI of Tips was aligned with the look and feel of the main site• For site stickiness, related tips functionality was built• Tips were categorized and made searchable based on various

parameters and internal search was made very powerful.• Enabled users to add tweaked version of the tip along with

their comments• High priority new feature requests were implemented after

quick Proofs of Concept (PoCs)• To facilitate agile development via daily status calls and

biweekly server builds

Technology Solution

• Wrote smart scripts to migrate excel data to Drupal and map source fields to destination fields as the new schema was very different from the old schema.

• Implemented CAPTCHA to prevent spam and malicious software

• Highly secure system to prevent cross site scripting and SQL injection attacks
