CR00140 Add sameAs to relationships

Add sameAs to broader, narrower and relatedThe properties broader, narrower and related (from the Relationship Group) should provide a list of

conceptURIs in addition to the one expressed by the qcode attribute of these elements. For this

purpose a sameAs child property should be added to these properties.

If a provider wants to annotate e.g. a province as subject of the news item and wants to add the

superior country by a broader property it may be required to add the 2 *and* the 3 letter code for this

country. Currently only one identifer can be applied, either 2 *or* 3 letter code. To overcome this

limitation one to many sameAs properties could provide a list of equivalent identifiers for the same

concept.

CR00141Extend infoSource to be used for a source

Extension of infoSource to be used for a sourceModify the definition of the Information Source property to extend its

semantics: while the current definition says "A party (person or organisation) which originate some information used to create or enhance the content" parties which modified, enhanced, distributed, aggregated or supplied the content should be included in future.

A party having the role of being a source of the content - in a wide sense - must have its place in the G2 metadata of item. One option was to add a property in parallel to infoSource. But as infoSource is already used for this purpose, with specific role vocabularies, - pushing the semantics to its limits - it is proposed to add this use to the definition. Having a new property and infoSource in parallel might also cause some confusion about where exactly to draw the line.

CR00142 Adding descriptive properties to a package group

Adding descriptive properties to a package groupAllow adding metadata which describe a group of a Package Item.

A Group within a Package Item is usually created for a specific purpose: a Group will wrap a group references to content in a specific context. This context may require a description or labelling. Further, a group may require special processing; this can be expressed by a signal property. Finally a note to the Editor of the receiver could be added as background information.

CR00143 Add hascontent attribute to NI content

Add hascontent attribute to the children of contentSetof a News ItemAdd a flag to the child properties of contentSet of a NewsItem for indicating if the child property i/ already includes content, or ii/ is currently only an empty wrapper.

Not all planned renditions of the content of a News Item may be available at the time of

the release of the initial version. However, at this time it might be known that, e.g., an

HD rendition of the existing SD rendition of a video will follow soon. To make the

receiver aware of the planned release of additional rendition(s), their elements may be

added to a contentSet i/ with only metadata being defined, but ii/ with no actual content

being provided (until a subsequent version of the item is released). This state must be

indicated by using the added hascontent attribute.

orientation The orientation of the visual content of an image in regard to the standard rendition of the digital image data.

colourspace The colour space of an image. Applies to image icons.

CR00145 new attributes for keyword, subject

New attributes for keyword and subjectAdd a few attributes to better quantify how the keyword(s) and/or

subject (s)relate to@@@ FIXME

Page 12: IPTC News Exchange Formats 2011 Autumn Working Party Report

CR00146 new derivedfrom attribute

Add a new derivedfrom attribute to all properties with a why attributeAdd a 'derivedfrom' attribute to all elements supporting the 'why' property, in order

to be able to indicate the concept that the element was derived from.

Is is useful to be able to indicate, for instance that the subject Western Europe was

derived from the Subject Great Britain. Typically the directly applied Subject (Great

Britain) will have associated confidence/relevance properties, but the derived

Subject (Western Europe) will not. Indicating that Western Europe is --derivedfrom--

> Great Britain will enable downstream processors to apply confidence/relevance to

the derived Subject, based on the (now known) directly applied subject.
