Extracare Schemes
What is Extracare? • It’s Housing first – people having their own
self-contained apartments• Extracare Housing is accommodating
people who would otherwise be frequent uses of acute health services
• Extracare consumers are older people being offered independent living with other services on hand if & when they need them
So what can Extracare Customers look like?

How many schemes are Great Places building?
• Tulloch Court – Blackpool opened June 2010
• Elk View – Blackpool opened August 2010 • North Manchester Scheme – scheduled to
open in February 2011 • Stoke Scheme – site available, planning
permission obtained and scheduled to open 2012?
Why be technology smart in a hard to reach/digitally excluded customer base ? • Great Places are new into the Extracare market
and wanted to make a difference• To provide excellent services and for the
business model to stack up smart technology needed to be embedded into the schemes
• To design a model that we could role out to all our Extracare schemes – scalable
• People are smart irrespective of their age and have vast knowledge and experience
Controlled Secure Access throughout the building
• Using Video Call Entry System
• See who is visiting you on your TV and let them in
• No Door keys – fobs used to control your access throughout the building
WiFi throughout the Extracare schemes & at an affordable cost

What has the uptake been like?
• The 2 Extracare schemes that have recently opened – uptake has been excellent
• Most residents have taken a Sky+ package so have access to Looking Local Application in their own apartments
• 20 % plus also hooked into the wifi and have their own laptops
Are customers more satisfied?
• Satisfaction is extremely high with their new homes and all of the technology available – but relatively early still
• There has not been rejection of the technologies through indirect methods – reporting failure, breakages, etc
• Customers have told us where the wifi signal has needed to be boosted!
What is the impact on inclusion?
• By embedding smart technology into the fabric of the building this has helped acceptance
• Residents making their own videos of “What’s on” and events
• Breaking down fear factors but also use an organic approach
• Make the technology fun
How can we make access more mobile and does it deliver better service for less?• The Looking Local PC Touch Screen application
is available in the residents own apartment as well as public areas
• Many of the residents are not that mobile but have access to all the services that they want
• Let your customers not only help you design applications but build them as well

Mr G. Reaper is a resident at one of our Extracare Schemes in Blackpool
Apparently you can only change your last name 3 times using deed poll. Unfortunately he only found this out after his 3rd name change!
