Offering innovative new servicesRenowned for providing reliable, secure and innovative IT solutions, K3System wanted to expand its service offering to include cloud computing. To help its clients achieve their business goals more effectively, K3System wanted to provide fully-hosted Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions.To offer cloud services, K3System recognized the need to update its existing IT infrastructure. The company needed a flexible platform that would enable clients to access hosted business systems quickly and reliably, on demand. K3System sought a scalable, easy-to-manage hardware solution to support high-quality, cost-effective cloud services.Securing a solid IT foundationK3System decided to implement Lenovo servers as the foundation for its new cloud service offering: K3Cloud. The Lenovo solution met all of the company’s requirements in terms of scalability, availability, reliability, performance and cost-effectiveness.Working with Lenovo, K3System implemented Lenovo System x3650 M5 servers for the production environment.Wojciech Piotrkowicz, CTO at K3System, remarks: “We run KVM virtualization and OpenStack cloud computing software on the Lenovo infrastructure. Using open-source and custom-developed software means that we have full control over service costs, and can take an independent development path in the future.”Offering both Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Software-as-a-Service via the K3Cloud, the company uses Veeam Cloud Connect for cloud backups, and Kodo Cloud for enhanced security of workstations, laptops and mobile devices. K3System also runs Red Hat Flux, for sales representative support, and Bpower2, a document workflow tool, on its Lenovo servers.

In addition, Lenovo System x3630 servers are used for the backup and disaster recovery environment, and deliver an excellent price-performance ratio, designed to handle high workloads.In addition, K3System uses Storwize V3700 as its main storage system, connected with Lenovo RackSwitch G8124E 10 GbE switches. Storwize V7300 is an easy-to-use, high-performance solution designed to operate in virtual server environments, with innovative built-in storage management features, such as EasyTier, FlashCopy, Remote Mirror and Turbo Performance.Meeting sky-high demand for the cloudWith the Lenovo infrastructure in place, K3System will soon be able to offer its clients ultra-reliable, super-scalable cloud services.Michał Kowalski, CEO of K3System, says: “We’re currently planning the rollout of K3Cloud, and expect uptake to be high – it’s the way the IT services market is moving.“With K3Cloud, clients will be able to flexibly scale compute power up and down to meet their businesses’ exact requirements, as and when needed.
