Sector Scheme Training Requirements, New Products, Relisted Products & Amendments January 2015

Sector Scheme Training Requirements Note from TD19/06: 1.17 All VRS installed for use on the Trunk Road network, and on all roads in Northern Ireland, must be installed and maintained by qualified personnel in accordance with Sector Schemes 2B and 5B (see Appendix A of MCHW-1), where these schemes are applicable. VRS, such as bridge and pedestrian parapets or cast in-situ concrete barriers, that are not covered by these Sector Schemes must be installed and maintained by suitably trained and experienced personnel. BikeGuard may be fitted to any UK system listed in the Non-Proprietary Safety Barrier Systems (NPSBS). It may also be fitted to any other system in the Highways Agency Approved Road Restraint

System List providing that Highway Care Limited first obtains the approval of the Promoter/Manufacturer of the safety barrier system

FlexGuard (Motorcyclist Protection System fitted to safety barriers)

MegaRail es with a motorcyclist protection device

Motorcyclist Protection System fitted to TCB, OBB, FlexBeam/FlexBeam Plus (both single and double sided versions of

these systems), the Hill and Smith H1/H2 safety barrier, and the Briflex vehicle restraint system.

The following Truck Mounted Atennuators (TMAs) [also known as Lorry Mounted Crash Cushions (LMCCs)] meet the requirements of TD 49/07 and hence, have demonstrated compliance with a 1500kg car impact at the speed of

the performance class. They may be used on the Highway Agency Trunk Road Network provided that a special dispensation order known as a Vehicle Special Order (VSO) is obtained from the Department for Transport.

In addition a Vehicle Inspectorate Form VTG 10 will need to be filed if the TMA is fitted with an auto impact brake system.

The TMA shall comply with the manufacturer's Specification, component descriptions and Installation procedures. Copies of documents and drawings can be obtained from the Promoter.
