IDEA 1
OUR IDEAOur first idea is to place different numbered and coloured bins in each year level’s class room.
The students will put their own rubbish into the coloured and numbered bin’s allocated to the year level they’re
in.
The bins will be separated into thirds. Cans, large rubbish and smaller rubbish. At the end of each day, the teacher checks to see where the rubbish in the bin is up to in each section. There will be marks on the outside of the bin to assist with calculating how much rubbish is in the bin. They then record this by the number of points each type of rubbish is worth on the tally board given.
HOW MANY POINTS IS RUBBISH WORTH?
There is three different ways to earn points.• Cans, bottles, fruit boxes (section 1) = 10
points per quarter
• Large packets e.g. chip packets etc. (section 2) = 6 points per quarter
• Smaller rubbish e.g. fruit, biscuits etc. (section 3) = 4 points per quarter
WHY IS THERE A TALLY BOARD?
Each class is given a tally board to record how much rubbish is in their bin after each day. After 5 weeks, the class with the most points will receive a prize
shared out within the class. E.g. Lollies, Sports equipment etc..

PRIZES
Some examples of prizes each class could receive are:• Sports equipment• Large container of lollies• Stationery items
Fundraisers may be needed to provide the prizes.
IDEA 2
OUR IDEA
Our second idea is to replace the bins around the school with bins that are in the shape of different animals. By doing this, kids may want to put their rubbish in a bin
more because they are more appealing.
THE BINSThese are just some of the types of bins that could
be placed around the school.
HOW WILL WE PAY FOR THEM?
To pay for these bins, each class could hold certain fundraisers or small activities. SRC funds could also be
accessed.• Collecting cans to recycle • Casual days• Movie night
