MEDIA POSTER ANALYSIS

I started by creating a bold, black text for the title ‘Friends’ for the film title ‘Best Friends’ as I knew I would want the font to be quite bold for that word, with the ‘best’ having a different, more delicate, font. I put the word ‘friends’ in capitals to make the font seem bolder and stand out – linking to its significance in the film.

I then added the text ‘Best’ to the poster, positioning it above ‘friends’ to the left hand side – I’ve put it to the side to allow it to sit in line with it. I put the text in a red font, to help it stand out against the bold, black text of ‘friends’. The font type is bold yet gives a wavey substance to the text – making it seem less intimidating and smoother.

I then placed a picture of a heart locket onto the poster and cut around each side to create two different sides to the heart, making the edges jagged around each side. I then moved the heart parts away from each other, slanting the left hand side slightly anti-clockwise to make their split more apparent – I then reinforced this by rotating the right hand side of the heart at a clockwise angle.

The image of the heart I used had a reflection within the heart so I used the paint brush to colour over it in a grey/white. I found the colour for the heart with the ‘eyedropper tool’; where I took the colour found in the heart and used it for the whole surface. I left the edges of the heart sides darker to show their outline bolder.

I then put a background to the poster with the gradient tool of black and white; I allowed the black and white to fade into each other creating a contrast between the top and bottom of the poster. I position the gradient line diagonally to allow an angle of the fade; making it blend easier.

I added a text box at the top of the poster, adding in the line “From the producers of ‘ghost’ and ‘evil ties’”; this is commonly used on film posters to draw attention to the poster and give the film credibility before being seen. I used a bold yet narrow font, so as not to take away from the title, in a white text to contrast the black background.

I then placed a text box underneath the title of the film ‘Best Friends’ saying ‘Friends forever?’; this is the tagline for the film. For this text I changed the font on each word with ‘friends’ being in a bold, black text to stand out against the white background and link to the black throughout the poster, with ‘forever?’ in a red, italic font to create a form of sarcasm.

Towards the bottom of the page I placed ‘coming soon’ in capitals to stand out and catch the readers eye. However, I placed the text in a smaller, weaker bold font to not take away from the rest of the text on the poster.

Afterwards, I created another text box underneath ‘coming soon’ and put details of the films over two lines. On the last line I put ‘in theatres everywhere’ in a small font, with capitals and put the date in red to stand out against the small black text surrounding it. I then rearranged the title of the film lower on the poster with the tagline higher; to the right hand side of the image of the heart.

FINAL OF DRAFTFor the final product I left the poster quite empty and plain so it allowed the details there to stand out and not make it seem very cluttered. I kept to a colour scheme of white, black and red so to show the relation between all the text and make the poster seem of a theme. I kept the fonts quite plain and bold to stand out but changed them all slightly to alter and make them stand out against each other.
