Mountain Wolf Woman

When Mountain Wolf Woman was born, Wisconsin had only been a state for 36 years.

Her first home was in Black River Falls, WI. Later, the

government made her tribe move to Nebraska.

Mountain Wolf Woman’s Childhood

When Mountain Wolf Woman was 9 years old, her oldest brother thought that she should go to school. She went to school for about 2 years but

stopped. She started again much later.

Mountain Wolf Woman helped her family by building wigwams, looking after her sisters and

brothers, stringing beans, and making mats.

Childhood

Once she was all grown up, she left her first husband and married a man that her oldest brother recommended.

Mountain Wolf Woman and her husband had 11 children.

They lived in Wisconsin, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Oregon.

She worked as a midwife, a person who helps women deliver their babies. She would also plant gardens, pick berries, make mats, sew, cook, and dance.
