Lots of money (up to MM) & time (up to Ys) are spent on bespoke planning, monitoring and reporting (PM&R) systems.
No way to easily discover / exchange / compare data.
Data conversion difficult and labour intensive.
Duplication means choosing between unknown alternatives. Everybody collects again.
Why Ordex?
Generic, cloud hosted, flexible for max 3 promille of (project /programme) budget with 90+ % of functionality.
Growing library, easy discovery, standard export/imports.
Single format, conversion not necessary.
Converging, crowd-rated open datasets. Moving towards specialization in data collection.
Pain Relief (≠ panacea)
+ + + + + = datapoint
Data : content varies, structure doesn’t (well, for at least 95 % of data)

Ordex : pros and cons (“business case”)
Development organizations / projects / NGOs
Spend less on PM&R (tooling). Spend more on other things. Better data-quality leads to better decisions and less failure. Better p.r. through transparency. Helps to get things funded. Additional training (using Ordex) and consulting (indicator definition) Transparency also means risks that need to be managed.
Ordex : Challenges
Technical / Development
High performance vs. generic vs multi-dimensional Code quality & documentation API development Search index optimization UX improvement
Organizational
More people on board Embedding in larger structure
Financial
Current development funded by Catalist (30%) and Ophileon (70%) Additional funding needed, preferably from clients
Ordex : Challenges (continued)
Policy
Will data really be open? Who is ready to share?
Conceptual
Indicator / variable definition is key. “a piece of cake” Generic concepts are a challenge, also marketing-wise
Ordex: Summary
Generic, cost efficient platform for PM&R
Fast (faceted) search and information discovery
Multi-dimensional data-entry, dynamic dataforms
Flexible report generator
Content available as open data for maps, graphs , apps
Implemented in Rwanda, Burundi & DRC
Enough challenges to keep us busy .. any help appreciated
