My Journey

• During the Panic of 1819 I lost just about everything.

• Then that ‘Moses Austin’ character showed up with a good deal I couldn’t refuse.

• The travel west wasn’t very eventful besides a few storms and our wagon getting stuck.

My Arrival

• And with my last $1000 I was able to get a good 2560 acres with all my family members and animals.

• And since my family and I are good hard-working, honest folk we were well qualified without much competition.

1822

• In 1822 there was a very harsh winter.

• And we didn’t have enough time to make any barns so our cattle had to sit out in the open, freezing to death.

• Ironically, there was plenty of lumber and a lot of building took place that year.

1822

• In other bad news the Lively arrived late so supplies were limited.

• And because of the harsh winter, not much cotton was harvested.

1823

• Sadly, a terrible event occurred in 1823 the Lively sank.

• And because of that event we were lost all of the supplies being shipped to us.

• Furthermore, our investments in cotton was wasted.

1824

• 1824 was a very successful year.

• Luckily, it was also the year that I spent just about all my money on investments.

1824

• Cotton was successful, lumber was successful, and cattle were successful.

• By the end of 1824, I had a big ol’ stack of money coming up to about $2250.

My Town

• The town that I had settled in was San Felipe. San Felipe turned out to be a good place to settle.

• I’m glad I didn’t settle in La Bahia because it was constantly raided by Native Americans.

My Conclusion

• All in all it was a very enjoyable experience.

• Since my life was going so well, I could do everything I couldn’t do and more than I could in the U.S.
