I have chosen to use the occupation of art and craft groups that I helped do at my second fieldwork placement at Assisi rest home and hospital. The occupation of art and craft is very important at the rest home as it
helps occupy the residents time with a meaningful occupation, encourages social interaction, and a opportunity to be creative.
Doing the occupation of art provides affirmation of competence
Art is purposeful and a goal orientated activity
Doing the occupation of art provides a sense of self worth
Doing includes daily tasks they feel people must do and others they want to do e.g. art
People spend most of there lives engaged in doing this stimulates, excites and entertains some people.
To live, self actualize and experience through the occupation of art
A time to reflect, be introspective and meditative.
Being is knowing and doing as a focal concern.
Being is discovering the self, savouring the moment and appreciate the natural environment and art.
Being is the essential ingredient of human experience. Some people experience through doing paintings.
The potential to do more than we are
Involves efforts to achieve and perceive an able capable self and includes the need to envision the future in which one might contribute something to others
These students are suggesting change in there future through studying the occupation of art
Explore new opportunities and harbour ideas about who or what they wish to become
These fashion design students are envisioning there future through the occupation of art by choosing it as a career
Social interaction through mutual support and provides a sense of inclusion
Being included through occupation
Contribution of social interaction through the occupation of art
A sense of being included, to occupational performance and life satisfaction
Building relationships and a sense of connectedness through the occupation of art
