Forces and Energy

We use force to move objects.

We can pull objects towards us.

We can push objects away from us.

We can use force to squeeze a sponge or plasticine and change their shape.

MAGNETS A magnet is made of magnetic material. It uses force to move metal objects without touching them. Magnets have two parts: a north pole and a south pole. A north pole and a south pole attract Two north poles or two south poles repel.

MACHINES AND TOOLS Machines and tools help us do things. Machines can be simple or complex (with many parts) .

A lever helps us lift heavy things

A ramp helps us move heavy things.

Scissors help us cut different materials.

ENERGY Machines need energy to move. There are different types of energy: from people, the sun, wind and electricity.

It needs energy from people.

It needs energy from wind.

It needs energy from electricity.

ELECTRICITY Electricity can come from the mains.

It can come from batteries.

Always put batteries in the special recycling containers
